Howell LNC Standards of Practice 1st Standard: Assessment The LNC (Legal Nurse Consultant) collects comprehensive data important to the healthcare case or claim. 2nd Standard: Issue or Problem Identification The LNC analyzes the assessment data to determine the issues in the healthcare case or claim. 3rd Standard: Outcomes Identification The LNC identifies expected outcomes for the individualized plan for a given healthcare case or claim. 4th Standard: Planning The LNC develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes. 5th Standard: Implementation The LNC implements the plan in a reasonable and timely manner. The LNC documents implementation and any modifications including changes in or omissions from the plan. The LNC utilizes knowledge and evidence-based strategies when applicable to the healthcare case or claim and collaborates with colleagues to help implement the plan. 6th Standard: Coordination of services The LNC coordinates implementation of the plan, synthesizes data and information pertinent to the case or claim. 7th Standard: Healthcare teaching and Healthcare promotion The LNC evaluates the health and safety issues involved in the healthcare case or claim and provides health teaching related to the impact of the illness on the injured party. The LNC utilizes health information resources available to them to provide the most accurate, readable and comprehensive health information. 8th Standard: Consultation The LNC provides consultation regarding a healthcare case or claim to influence the identified plan, enhance and support contribution of others and effect change. 9th Standard: Evaluation The LNC conducts a systematic, ongoing evaluation of the outcomes involving the client and others involved in the case. The LNC evaluates the effectiveness of the planned strategies in relation to the patient and the desired outcomes and continues ongoing assessment of data of the plan and makes revisions if needed. 10th Standard: Quality of Practice The LNC systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices. 11th Standard: Education The LNC attains knowledge and competency that reflect current nursing practice. 12th Standard: Professional Practice Evaluation The LNC evaluates one's own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations. 13th Standard: Collegiality The LNC interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues. 14th Standard: Collaboration The LNC collaborates with clients and others in the conduct of legal nurse consulting practice. 15th Standard: Ethics The LNC integrates ethical provisions in all areas of practice. 16th Standard: Research The LNC integrates research findings into practice. 17th Standard: Resource Utilization The LNC considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost and impact on practice in the planning and evaluation of the healthcare case or claim. 18th Standard: Leadership The LNC provides leadership in the professional practice setting and in the profession.
